For the horse
Prepare measurements for a horse rug
Use the specific maker’s method and assess the fit on the horse.
Rug sizing conventions differ. Read the maker’s diagram before measuring, and record whether the measurement is a body length or a rug dimension. Use assistance when needed so the horse remains settled and the measurement is repeatable.
Work through it
- Measure along the route specified by the manufacturer. Keep the tape positioned consistently and record the units and date.
- Compare the result with the exact product chart. Consider cut and available adjustments rather than assuming a familiar size will fit every model.
- When permitted by the seller’s try-on terms, inspect chest closure, shoulder movement, length and strap adjustment. Look for rubbing or restriction during ongoing use.
Check your result
- The maker’s method is recorded.
- The horse can move comfortably.
- Straps are adjusted according to the product instructions.
