Choose a saddle pad with fit in mind

A pad is one part of a larger fitting system. It should not be used to conceal an unresolved saddle-fit problem. Begin with the saddle’s dimensions, the riding discipline and advice from a qualified fitter when pressure or comfort is in question.

Work through it

1. Check the pad’s shape and dimensions against the saddle. Look for adequate clearance around the edges and appropriate room at the wither and spine.
2. Consider thickness and material in the context of the existing fit. Adding bulk changes the space available under the saddle.
3. Inspect the pad during regular use for movement, compression, debris and wear. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions so it remains suitable for the intended job.
